Lost and Found


    Loosing a pet can be a very difficult and frustrating time. Tarpon Woods Veterinary Medical Center is committed to serving our community by assisting owners with being reunited with their lost pets. If you have lost your pet and are located in the Tampa Bay area, we recommend your do the following immediately:


    1. Make sure you have your pets license registration, this will come in handy if your pet is found.

     2. If your pet is microchiped and registered, place an alert.

    3. Check the local newspapers on a daily basis for someone who may have found your pet.

    4. Contact the Humane Society (727.797.7722) and Pinellas County Animal Services (727.582.2600) to make them aware of your situation. We recommend that you go in person and give them a picture and discription of your lost pet.

    5. Place fliers in your local area with a picture of your pet on it.

    6. Bring a current picture of your pet into our Medical Center along with ANY information that may assist us in identifying your pet.

    7. Email us a picture of your animal with a thorough history so that we may post it on this page and assist you in becoming reunited with your pet.

    8. Don't give up! Dogs and cats are surprisingly resilient. A survey promoted by the United States Humane Society found that pet owners who lost pets and were proactive in finding them were greater than 85% successful. 

 

Tips to Help Prevent Your Pet From Becoming Lost 

 

    1. Keep your pet at all times either indoors, on a leash, or in a securely fenced in yard. 

    2. Make sure your pet has current tags at all times. 

    3. Have a written description of your pet (size, weight, color, markings) and current photos.

    4. Consider a permanent form of identification such, as a microchip.

    5. Have your pet spayed or neutered to decrease roaming.
